NEW 3M™ PPS™ Series 2.0 Spray Cup System - How To & Review

C.W. Hayden Co. How To Series

The new 3M™ PPS™ paint preparation system – the world's first disposable paint cup system, and a revolution in painting productivity and quality that was quickly adopted by painters all over the world, has some distinct advantages over the old system. The new gun is made of a very high strength metal which means you can drop it and its much more durable. It's also the lightest spray gun in the world and has the added advantage of a much easier to use nozzle attachment system than the old series. Another advantage of the attachment system which before was much smaller, is that they've increased the actual air flow or area for the fluid to go down so it's a lot more robust. This system requires virtually no clean up other than wiping the tips and tips are designed to be thrown out so you can clean them and reuse them which makes life a lot easier.

This series can be used with any water-based product including gel coat, stains, primers, enamels and varnishes.

3M™ PPS™ Series 2.0 – Now Six Ways Better

  1. Four-Point Connection
Wide spout PPS™ Series 2.0 Adapters feature a 4-point connection to the cup lid, increasing stability and confidence for hassle-free painting and cleaning. 3M has an adapter for all commonly used spray guns on the market.
  2. Quarter-Turn Lid Locking System
Just a quick ¼-turn is all it takes to lock the PPS™ Series 2.0 Lid onto the cup for faster, more efficient assembly. There's no need for a separate collar – when you're finished, simply dispose of the lid and grab a new one for consistently clean painting.
  3. Domed Lid Design
The PPS™ Series 2.0 Lid features a domed geometry that holds up to 3 oz of paint below the filter. Together with its built-in full-diameter filter, the lid improves flow and consistency, while reducing spitting from start to finish.
  4. New Cup in Every Kit
We include a new hard cup in every PPS™ Series 2.0 Lid & Liner Kit. Start with a clean cup more often, reducing paint build-up and the time spent cleaning cups and collars. Built-in mixing ratios and fill markings eliminate the need for inserts or traditional mixing cups.
  5. Access Window
Cut-out window allows you to grasp the liner through the cup, keeping it firmly in position for cleaner, easier lid removal when refilling or tinting. This window also makes it easier to quickly check paint levels.
  6. Larger Sealing Plug
The PPS™ Series 2.0 Sealing Plug is designed so painters can simply fit it into the lid, turn the cup upside down and use the plug as a wide, flat, stable base for temporary sealing and protection of coatings. This method also keeps the filters wet, so you use fewer lids.

How To Use:

Step 1:

Like the old system you drop your liner into the cup and put your lid on which has a mesh screen on to help filter your product.

Step 2:

Snap the lid on, turn it on, and place it on the unit.

Step 3:

Once you apply pressure (average run is about 20 pounds), but once you have the product in there, if you open the air all the way and pull the trigger, you bleed out any excess air in the bag and create a closed system. Then you can spray inverted in all different orientations which is a big advantage especially in tight areas.

Please note that after a certain amount of cleaning times the overspray will walk out on you and you'll lose your type pattern.
